Connecting Roku Device to the Internet

Roku is a streaming device that offers service over the Internet. So, connecting the Roku device with your home network becomes inevitable. Most of the latest Roku devices support wireless connection mode while you can use the USB cable on devices that isn’t compatible with wireless connectivity.

Preparation for the setup

  • Roku Guided setup will begin when you power On your Roku device for the first time
  • Guided setup on Roku will help you accomplish these things;
    1. Establish a connection with your home network
    2. Configure preferences and settings
    3. Activate your Roku device using the roku.com/link web page
  • Gather your wireless network name and password for wireless setup (Note: In technical terms, the Network name is called the Service Set Identifier – SSID)
  • Are you using a wired network? Attach one end of the power cable to the Roku device and the other end to your router

Steps to connect 

  • While Performing the Guided setup, you will be prompted to select the type of connection
  • Choose either “Wired” or “Wireless” 
  • In case if you select “Wireless”,
    1. Choose your SSID network name from the available list
    2. Select “Scan again” if you can’t find your network
    3. Enter the password of your wireless network
    4. Select “Connect” once you finished entering
  • Now your roku.com/link device will establish a successful connection with your home network
  • Roku will update the software automatically once connected with the Internet and it will restart
